We often try to engage people in conversations about Business Continuity and their over-riding feeling is that ‘it won’t happen to me’.

For many, the idea of Business Continuity is all about recovering from a Fire, Bomb, Earthquake or another catastrophic event that may befall the office.  And, in such a circumstance, it’s easy to see why the ‘it won’t happen to me’ feeling prevails.

But, this week saw many to view Business Continuity as a very real issue as they struggled to keep their businesses open during the Big Freeze.

Welcome to 2010 and a New Year with new possibilities.  But, what lessons did 2009 teach us?

You might have seen recent headlines about organisations who keep data on employees and customers being scolded by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) for having insufficient protections in place to ensure data they hold is kept secure, for example, when laptops containing personal information have been stolen.
